Have you heard that Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is available to the entire state of Missouri for children under five years old? Parents are encouraged to register online at www.imaginationlibrary.com to ensure that there is little wait time for the child to be entered into the database and start receiving their monthly book. If you need help registering please contact us. Books will be mailed directly to the homes of registered children every month at no cost to families. Depending on the date of enrollment, it could take 9 to 12 weeks for the first book to arrive.

Our EMS Student Council did a great job honoring Veterans today. Many people made today possible. Thank you Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Braden for organizing the event and all of the Stuco members for their assistance. Thank you Mrs. Cooper and the EHS band for playing multiple songs. Thank you Mrs. Heras and the Treblemakers honor choir for performing. Thank you for preparing the extra special breakfast for our Veterans and their students. Thank you Jed Heras for your trumpet solo playing taps. One last special thank you to our SRO Julie Conner for giving a speech during the assembly discussing the history of the day and what it means to be a Veteran.

Veterans Day
Today around 11:00 am, utility crews working near the school campus hit a water line. Once this happened, all of our buildings experienced a drop in water pressure. This drop in water pressure caused difficulty with our toilets flushing properly. School officials were in contact with the City of Elsberry and the city was aware of the problem and had crews starting to work on the issue. After a few hours most of our toilets were no longer flushing and the decision was made to send students home early because of the lack of usable bathrooms. The water line was fixed this afternoon and all of our facilities are back working properly. The school and surrounding areas of the city will be under a water boil advisory for Thursday and Friday. We will have school and we ask that students bring a water bottle from home as our water fountains will be closed. Thanks for your understanding with this unusual situation.

Mrs. Gomel’s 7th Grade Advisory has HEART! They’ve chosen a community service project that is two-fold. First they want to help save the earth by recycling aluminum cans. Then with the funds earned from recycling they want to donate that money to Alzheimer’s research for a cure. Many of us, in this small advisory class, have a family member or a friend that suffers from this terrible disease. Alzheimer’s research is one of the least supported causes and yet this disease is a fast growing concern. We have to do something! Here are options in which you can help us: 1. By collecting and recycling aluminum cans and donating the money to our advisory group so that we can give it to Alzheimer’s research. 2. Send in your bags of cans to Mrs. Gomel. 3. Contact Mrs. Gomel so she can make arrangements to come pick up your cans. You can email her at jgomel@elsberry.k12.mo.us or call her at school (573) 898-5554 x 247 We will collect cans all school year. At the end of the school year she may organize a field trip to take her advisory group and all of the cans collected on a bus to the recycling center. The kids will enjoy seeing the process of recycling, receiving a check and forwarding that on to do good for Alzheimer’s research. We will give ALL the money we earn from recycling and donate it to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. You can learn more about them at www.alzinfo.org. Take HEART and help us make a difference for our planet and our community and beyond!
