Teacher Talk

by Kim Jones

October 03, 2008

This week we look into the first grade classroom of Tracy Cleveland and the final sixth grade classroom taught by Brandy Huber.

Some children are fortunate they that get to travel to other states during their lifetime. But if you are a student in Mrs. Cleveland’s class you get to travel to a different state everyday!!!  Everyday students learn about a state, where it is located on the map, interesting facts about that state, and some history of the state.  If you happen to talk to one of Mrs. Cleveland’s students ask them to say the 50 states in ABC or even sing a song about them.  This year something special is happening as the students study the states.  Two students in the class have relatives that are truck drivers so every state that they travel through they try to drop the class a post card from that state.  The highlight of this activity will be when the dad of one of the students drops by with his “Big Rig” to show the class.  Stay tuned for that event and pictures.

In Mrs. Huber’s sixth grade class students are in the process of reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  After finishing the chapter where Willy Wonka was inventing the Everlasting Gobstopper, Mrs. Huber assigned the difficult task to the students to event their own piece of candy.  Students worked with a partner to come with their own invention, then they had to bring all the necessary supplies to complete their inventions.  The students had fun using their imagination to create a unique kind of candy.
