Big River Days

The local Army Corps of Engineer talked about how water traffic
moves
through the locks and how the water is raised and lowered all as a
result of
gravity. They also taught the students how to make a journal out of
a stick
and brown lunch bags. The students were able to view
how furniture was
made in the past by watching a chair-making demonstration. A
gunsmith
showed the students what types of guns, bullets and coins were used
in the
past. There was a walking tour with a speaker who
talked and showed the
students pictures of what was affected by the flood. They
watched a puppet
show. The Air Evac helicopter landed and students were able
to climb into
and sit in the helicopter as well as view an Ambulance and Fire
Truck. One
the most exciting events was listening to a story teller under the
gazebo.
The students had a sack lunch by the river and Big River Days
provided the
students with water and apples.
The trip was a great deal of fun and very educational!
