March 26, 2007

The Elsberry High School music department is making a name for itself this year in several performances.  One of which was, district music contest, that was held over the weekend at Mexico High School.  The band traveled a long way and came back with outstanding results.  Seven members of the music department will be competing on a state level, April 27 in Columbia after receiving Superior Ratings (also known as a I rating).   Those students are Amie Kelly, clarinet solo; Dusti Eaton, flute sole; Samantha Fomera, Flute Solo; Jasmine Tillotson, Devon Tillotson, KK Barnes and Eaton, Flute Quartet.

The Band went to the contest with 14 solos and four small ensembles ready for competition.  Others competing also finished with astounding results just not high enough to move onto the state level.  An “excellent rating” (II) was received by the entire High School Concert Band and the Woodwind Choir. Others receiving this rating were Abby Hall, vocal solo; Kari Kroeger, tuba solo; Amy Sherrow, trumpet solo; Sean O’Brien, trumpet solo; Brittany Mound, alto sax solo; Chloe Miller, alto sax solo, Dusti Eaton, KK Barnes and Devon Miller, senior flute trio; and Sean O’Brien, Amy Sherrow and Kari Kroeger, trumpet trio.

The Elsberry Music Department is under the direction of Lisa Byland-McMahon.
