Dare Graduation

Since 1983 the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program has been in classrooms across the country.  Elsberry Fifth graders recently graduated from the DARE program taught by the school’s SRO Deputy Tim Princivalli of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

          The program which was held in the high school gymnasium on Friday, November 17 was opened by the LCSD Color guard presenting the colors of the American Flag and Missouri Flag.

          Deputy Princivalli then awarded pin and stuffed Darren the DARE Lions to the outstanding essay winners from each class.  They were Cassidy Bartlett, Robert Golden and Kimmie Croxville.  He then presented medals to the outstanding student from each class which was based on participation, cooperation and most outgoing.  They were Maura O’Brien, Caleb Vitro and Cailee Vitro.

  Next was an a slide show presentation of activities and students throughout the year.  The presentation of diplomas was then done by the teacher and Officer Princivalli.  The students finished by walking through a congratulating line of the following people from the Sheriff’s department on a job well done, Major John Cottle, Captain Greg Houdyshell, Lt. Kent Hanshew, Deputy Wade O’Haron, Deputy Chris Bosley, Deputy Karen Kroeger and special guest, Darren The DARE Lion.

          The program closed with several students participating in a skit to show the importance of “saying NO to drugs.”  The fifth grade teachers are Sarah Neumann, Redonda Heitman and Kendra Griesbauer.
